Wake Forest Baptist Oncologist Authors Organization’s Diversity Plan
WINSTON-SALEM, NC May 12, 2017 – Karen M. Winkfield, M.D.,Ph.D., associate professor of radiation oncology and director of the Office of Cancer Health Equity at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, served as the lead author of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) strategic plan for increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the oncology workforce.
The goal of the plan is to enhance existing programs and create new opportunities to achieve an oncology workforce that reflects the demographics of the U.S. population. The plan is published in the May issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
ASCO represents more than 40,000 oncology professionals who care for cancer patients through research, education and promotion of the highest-quality patient care.
