Heart Care goes Platinum at Cone Health

Cone Health receives the American College of Cardiology’s highest award for the treatment of heart attacks.

GREENSBORO, NC August 10, 2017 – The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology with its highest award for the treatment of heart attacks.

The American College of Cardiology has a menu of performance measures for the treatment of heart attacks. Hospitals must meet those measures at least 90 percent of the time for eight consecutive quarters to earn the platinum designation.

“The physicians and care teams treating heart attack patients at Moses Cone Hospital have achieved yet another distinction with this platinum performance award from the American College of Cardiology,” said Rich Lundy, Cone Health vice president of heart and vascular services, imaging and respiratory care. “This award is another indication of the nationally-leading, exceptional care being provided right here at Cone Health.”

The performance measures are part of the ACTION Registry®. The registry is a risk-adjusted, outcomes-based quality improvement program that focuses exclusively on high-risk heart attack patients. It helps hospitals apply American College of Cardiology clinical guideline recommendations in their facilities and provides tools to measure and improve results.

Cone Hospital is in the top one percent of hospitals in the nation when it comes to lowest readmission rates for heart attack patients. Fewer people returning to the hospital within 30 days of having a heart attack is widely regarded as a sign of outstanding treatment.
