Expanded Emergency Department Opens at Texas Health Alliance
New space offers more rooms, is phase one of bigger expansion
FORT WORTH, Texas – December 7, 2017 – Growth is everywhere you look in North Fort Worth, and to respond to the ever-expanding population of young families and new businesses, Texas Health Alliance is doing a little growing of its own.
The hospital today opened the doors to its newly expanded Emergency Department– phase one of a two-part, $25 million construction project that will eventually grow the facility’s Emergency Department to 34 rooms, more than double its previous size.
“We are thrilled to offer this new and improved space to the people of North Fort Worth,” said Clint Abernathy, president of Texas Health Alliance. “The North Tarrant region is growing, with more people choosing to call the area home every day. That means health care needs will continue to increase and we want to grow alongside the region to meet those needs.”
The Texas Health Alliance Emergency Department cares for about 33,000 patients every year. Phase one of the project includes a new 22,000 square feet of space that boasts 20 new Emergency Department rooms, three of which are trauma rooms, an expanded waiting room and a new ambulance bay.
With the opening of phase one comes a new, temporary entrance to the Emergency Department. Patients should now enter the Emergency Department through Old Denton Road, on the south side of the hospital. Temporary signage is available to help guide patients, said Brad Comstock, support services and hospitality officer at Texas Health Alliance.
Phase two of the construction project will begin in January 2018 and will include the renovation of former Emergency Department space. That 8,500-square-foot space will be converted into 14 more Emergency Department rooms, one of which will be a trauma room. Phase two is expected to be complete in July 2018.
The Dallas office of HKS served as architect of record for the overall project and Redwood City, Calif.-based DPR Construction served as general contractor for the overall project.
“We are excited about the new space and being able to offer expanded rooms to our community,” Comstock said. “The new Emergency Department has a much better flow for patients and for staff and we think people will really like it.”
