Carolinas HealthCare System Opens First 24-Hour Urgent Care Location in Charlotte
Patients can get care anytime at a convenient location near Carolinas Medical Center
CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 5, 2018 – Carolinas HealthCare System announced the opening of a new 24-hour urgent care near Uptown Charlotte. The 5,000 square foot building sits adjacent to Carolinas Medical Center, at the intersection of East Morehead Street and South Kings Drive. The new urgent care will be fully staffed 24-hours a day, providing round-the-clock care, when and where patients need it.
“We know when patients aren’t feeling well, they want the best care and they want it convenient to their schedule,” said Stephen Jones, Vice President, Carolinas HealthCare System Medical Group. “This new urgent care is one more way Carolinas HealthCare System brings care to the community, where and when they need it most. The new location will also help with the demand in the emergency department, where we see many patients who could have been treated in the urgent care.”
People suffering from a life-threatening illness, such as chest pain, should always go to the emergency department. But many times, a patient can receive care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, such as a sprain or minor bone break, at an urgent care.
“Patients can receive care no matter the time of day – whether they are headed home from work, or become ill early in the morning or in the middle of the night,” said Alfred Kendrick, MD, Carolina HealthCare System’s Medical Director of Urgent Care. “They can receive treatment at the new location often at a lower cost than in the emergency department.”
And by reserving a spot online at the new urgent care location, or one of Carolinas HealthCare System’s 28 others, patients have a general time frame of when they will be seen rather than waiting for hours in a waiting room. Patients can also learn approximate wait times at the nearest urgent care using Amazon’s Alexa technology.
Media is invited to tour the new 24-hour urgent care and speak with providers about the impact the new location will have on the community. Media may park at the Urgent Care for the tour, if space is available, located at 1426 E. Morehead Street. Please arrive no later than 10 a.m. on Monday, January 8.
