Plumbers Local Union 130 UA Selects Cerner to Manage Health Center for Members
CHICAGO, Oct. 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Plumbers Local Union 130 United Association (UA) announced it has selected Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, to operate a health center in the southwest Chicago area, where members of Local 130 and their families can receive health and care services as a part of their union benefits.
“Our members’ health and well-being are our top priority, and we are committed to equipping them with the care they need to live healthy lives,” said Plumbers Local Union 130 UA Business Manger James Coyne. “Providing our members and their families with quality care will give them greater control of their health, while they continue to provide top plumbing craftsmanship to the Chicago area.”
Cerner’s approach aims to minimize wait times while maximizing time with care providers to provide a better member experience and improve health results. By providing convenient access to acute and preventive care, chronic condition management, education and health risk awareness, Cerner’s health centers can help members and their families stay healthy and reduce the need for costly emergency and urgency room visits and specialists, while providing a unique benefit to members.
“Local 130 is dedicated to building and maintaining a healthy and happy workforce, and Cerner looks forward to joining them in this important effort,” said Cerner Population Health Services Vice President Mike Heckman. “Today’s plumbers are called on to do complex work that can be physically taxing. With this new health center, Cerner is ready to bring years of workforce health expertise, clinical staff and technology to help achieve optimal health for members of Local 130.”
Under Cerner’s management, the health center will pair high-quality clinical services with technology including Cerner’s big data platform for population health management – HealtheIntent® – to manage the health of Local 130 members and their families.
Through a person-centered model of care, members and their families will be encouraged to proactively manage their health through an integrated electronic health record and an online health portal designed to encourage sustainable, healthy behaviors.
A permanent location for the health center in the southwest area of Chicago will be announced at a later date and is expected to open in 2019.
Cerner currently operates health centers across the country, including centers for its own workforce, and other union organizations.
